Plot[]

Prologue[]

The film begins with a flashback to 1945, where it shows how as Allied armies closing in on Germany. In an act of desperation, Adolf Hitler launches 46 nuclear missiles to random targets around the world. 62 million people are killed in the bombing and millions more in the resulting nuclear fallout. Most national governments around the world collapse and millions of people die from famines and violence. The world disintegrates into thousands of city-sized nations, fighting for resources and land.

Main Plot[]

Through a combination of luck and circumstance, 13-year-old Ryan Wayne finds himself in charge of a small community in the suburbs of Los Angeles. The film shows him grappling with early difficulties before blossoming into an expert diplomat and strategist. He brings his coalition to glory, without losing his signature wit and compassion for his subjects.

Production & Reception[]

The film was announced by Newton Pictures as its first major movie in November 2017 and was released to theaters on December 14th, 2018. It did well at the box office, grossing over $14 million.

The film received generally mixed reviews from critics, scoring 86% on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.1/10 on Metacritic. The story was continued in the 2023 film Ryan 2: City of Flames.
